Chocolate Cake: A Favorite at Birthday Parties and Weddings
By Joanne Fletcher
Perhaps the most common, as well as mouth-watering, dessert item served at gatherings such as birthday parties and weddings would be the chocolate cake. Rich in chocolate content, the cake comes in various types that depend on how the ingredients as well as chocolate flavoring are used in the making of the chocolate cake.
It found a great deal of notoriety when famous cricketers, as well as commentators, consumed it with great gusto. It was thus named the Test Match Special, which to this day is popular, though now it does include fruits in the chocolate cake as well.
A Perfect Present to Near and Dear Ones
Chocolate cake is also useful to be presented to someone that is near and dear, with most bakeries and cake shops having a different chocolate cake for all occasions. The German chocolate cake is layered with chocolate-buttermilk that also has toppings of coconut-pecan frosting. Though it is often referred to as the German chocolate cake, it is not a German invention at all.
In fact, the original recipe can be attributed to a homemaker in Dallas in the year 1957. The recipe was sent to a Texas newspaper, and made use of Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate, which was the creation of an English gentleman by the name of Same German.
This German chocolate cake quickly found favor, and such was its popularity that General Foods that owned Baker's Chocolate sent pictures of it to newspapers all over the United States. It is now found in all bakeries as well as on store shelves, and is sold as cake mix.
For making chocolate cake, there are many different recipes available. The main ingredients that go into making it are two cups of flour, two cups of sugar, 150 grams of butter, two eggs, two teaspoons of cocoa powder, one teaspoon of baking powder, as well as one cup of strong coffee.
To bake the chocolate cake one must cream the butter and sugar so that it becomes soft, as well as creamy. One should add eggs to the butter-sugar mixture and sieve the flour as well as cocoa and baking powder, and then add it to the mixture of eggs and butter-sugar. Then, put coffee in and mix it all up well.
The baking dish should be greased with oil or butter, and one should bake the preparation at high temperature for about 35 to 45 minutes and check that the cake is properly baked by sliding a thin knife and seeing if it comes out clean. If it does, the cake is baked; otherwise, bake for a few more minutes, and soon you will have a delicious treat.
